Featured artist: Wolfango Chiappella

We are thrilled to highlight Weston Turville artist, Wolfango Chiappella, as the featured artist in our forthcoming Bucks Art Society Autumn 2026 Exhibition at the Wendover Memorial Hall, 31st October – 1st November.

A master of evocative landscapes, Wolfango has exhibited widely and was recently shortlisted for SAA Artist of the Year, Land, Sea and City category. He has also used his professional background as a web designer to generously help manage the website of Bucks Art Society for many years.

Profile written by fellow BAS artist Jackie Marshall-Ringer

Wolfango’s subjects are rooted in locations that hold significant personal meaning.

Viewers will recognise familiar local scenes that have appeared repeatedly in his work, such as the serene stretches of the canal and the tranquil environs of Wendover Woods.

Other landscapes also enter his paintings for personal reasons.

The Isle of Man has become an integral part of his life and work, inspired by his daughter's connection to the island.

Wales remains a beloved destination that he frequently revisits, while Scotland offers a rugged beauty that he hopes to explore further.

And naturally, Italy, the place of his birth, is woven into his artistic DNA, remaining a strong and recurring landscape in his portfolio.

Over time, Wolfango’s painting has become increasingly concerned with capturing tone, atmosphere, and the tactile surface of the paint itself, rather than focusing on strict, literal detail.

Working predominantly in oils, his creative process is physical and layered. He usually works from sketches and memory, often developed from direct observation.

He frequently employs a palette knife, scraping the paint back and methodically rebuilding the layers until the composition begins to hold together.

Through this process, Wolfango explores the threshold where a landscape stops being a physical description of a place and transforms into something that is "remembered or felt."

We invite you to immerse yourself in Wolfango Chiappella’s atmospheric works, as well as those of other leading Buckinghamshire artists, at the Bucks Art Society Autumn 2026 Exhibition at the Wendover Memorial Hall, 31st October – 1st November.
